The basic observation buoys (BOBs) in Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair have been designed by researchers at the University of Connecticut's Department of Marine Sciences and Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE-TEK) for the 2011 Teacher Technology Experience (TTE) titled "The Courtship of EVA and BOB". Teachers and students at Harper Woods Middle School participated in a COSEE-TEK run citizen science project to monitor water-born pesticides and water quality in the Detroit area. They collected data from this buoy during Fall 2011 and posted their findings here on the COSEE-TEK website.
