Teachers and students at Montgomery College are currently participating in a COSEE-TEK run citizen science project to monitor water-born pesticides and freshwater invertebrate communities Science Center pond of the Rockville campus. The buoy is equipped with an Onset HOBO temperature and light sensor, settling plates to measure seasonal recruitment of aquatic invertebrates, and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) sensors to passively sample organic contaminants. They have been collecting data from this buoy since November 2012 and posting their findings here on the COSEE-TEK website.
